| Jack G. Gilliom, 82, of Lafayette died Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 8:55 p.m. at Home Hospital from complications of C.O.P.D. He was born in Bluffton, IN on December 28, 1927 to the late Vernon and Hazel Bennet Gilliom. He lived in the South Bend area most of his life. His first marriage was to Janet Swisher, on June 10, 1949 and she preceded him in death on September 27, 1968. He married Karen Emmons Smanda on June 25, 1971 in Mishawaka and she survives.
He served in the Navy from January 1946 to November, 1947 as a 3rd class petty officer. He worked as a communications engineer for WSBT AM-FM-TV for 38 years, Retiring in 1990. He was a member of the 25 year Club at WSBT, he enjoyed fishing, golfing and hunting.
He is survived by two sons John “Pat” Gilliom of Oklahoma City, OK., Mark (wife, Julie) Smanda of Charlotte, NC., one daughter Debra (husband, Mark) Johnson of Lafayette and one sister Irene Sills of Florida
Visitation 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Service 1 p.m. Thursday at Hippensteel Chapel. Pastor David L. Horner, officiating. He is survived by three grandchildren Anna and Everett Johnson, and Jack Smanda. He was preceded in death by one son Jack “Mike” Gilliom, one brother Wayne Gilliom, and one sister Dorothy Decker. In lieu of flowers, memorials to American Lung Association.
