| Steven Kendall Horner, 63, of West Lafayette, died Tuesday, March 02, 2010, at Clarian Arnett Hospital due to complications from Multiple Sclerosis.
Born November 8, 1946 in Lafayette, he was the son of Janice Y. Horner of Indianapolis and the late John C. “Jack” Horner. Steve graduated from Culver Military Academy in 1965 and received a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University in 1969. While at Purdue he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, a Purdusir in the Purdue Glee Club, and a member of the Army ROTC. He was active in intramural sports and was campus squash champion.
He was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and received the Army Air Medal and a Bronze Star for his service flying helicopters in Viet Nam. He joined MBAH Insurance Co. and then received his Casualty Property and Casualty Underwriters degree in 1981 and retired as a Partner. Steve was active in the community serving as President of the Home Hospital Board, Solicitor for the Purdue University Fund Drive, and was Chairman of the Commerce B Subdivision and Chairman of the Finance Committee for the Greater Lafayette United Way. He continued his interest in sports playing softball and racquetball. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church.
Steve lived for the past ten years at the Indiana Veterans Home, West Lafayette. He maintained an active interest in community affairs and was a generous financial supporter of many local charities and Purdue University.
Surviving with his mother, is a son, Mark Alexander Horner of Auburn, Alabama; and two sisters, Lynn Horner Swingle (husband, Robert S.) of Zionsville and Jean Horner of West Lafayette.
Friends may call one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Memorial service Saturday at Central Presbyterian Church, Rev. Dr. William Smutz officiating.
