| Menlo Hall “Bud” Pridemore, 91, of Lafayette, died on July 1, 2010 at his residence. Born on October 14, 1918 in Lafayette, he was the son of the late Glenn and Edith G. (Hall) Pridemore. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School, and graduated from the Indiana College of Mortuary Science in 1939. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a funeral director and owner of Hippensteel Funeral Home from 1939 to 1986.
On September 14, 1940 he married Celia Ann Koning in Elizabethtown, KY. She preceded him in death on December 25, 1987. He married Alice Ware on October 12, 1989 in Laguna Nigel, CA and she preceded him in death on March 22, 2010.
Mr. Pridemore was a member of Lafayette Christian Reformed Church. He was instrumental in the building and development of the Lafayette Christian School, and Past President and a founder of Lafayette Christian School Society. He was a member of American Legion Post #11, Navy Club, board member of Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, member and past president of the Lafayette Exchange Club, Fraternal Order of Police Arman Lodge #49, John Purdue Club, Lafayette Country Club, Indiana Funeral Directors Association, and Tippecanoe County Funeral Directors Association. He was an avid bowler and bowled on two leagues for over 20 years; the Market Square Mixed and City Men’s Leagues. He loved to play golf & had made 3 hole-in-ones. He was a Jefferson High School sports fan and an avid Purdue sports fan who had attended nearly every Purdue home football game for the past 65 years, attending his last football game at the age of 90. He was instrumental in the building & development of the Lafayette Christian School. He was the oldest member of the Downtown Gridiron Club.
Surviving are three children, Penelope “Penny” Bell (husband, John) of Lafayette, Valerie Jane Williams (husband, Dennis) of Oconomowoc, WI, and Richard Pridemore (wife, Barb) of Monticello; one brother, Billy D. Pridemore (wife, Heidi) of Costa Mesa, CA; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter & several step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Pridemore.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, July 5, 2010 at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the funeral home with Rev. Doug Pruim officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Lafayette Christian School or Lafayette Christian Reformed Church.
