Clyde A. McCorkle, 73, of Lafayette passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Creasy Springs. He was born October 24, 1947 in New Castle, IN, to the late Loren and Martha Jean (Russell) McCorkle. He was a 1966 graduate of Brookston High School before attending Purdue University. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Clyde was a Detective and Lieutenant with the Purdue Police Department for almost 27 years before retiring on January 1, 2000. He was a member of the American Legion Post #492. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and collecting steins and coins, and most importantly time with family. He volunteered his time with the East Tipp Summer Rec Softball program serving as President, Coach and Umpire. Surviving are his three daughters: Michelle (Steve) Engelder of Kokomo, Barbara McGrew and Erin (Ryan) Nichols both of Lafayette; and siblings: Virgil (Tina) McCorkle of Bolingbrook, IL, and Deborah Richey of Omaha, NE. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Riley Huber, Maya Nichols, Jack and Garrett Engelder and Sara McGrew. He is preceded in death by triplet granddaughters. Private family services will be held at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Brookston IOOF Cemetery. In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions may be directed to the Delphi Christian Church.
