Gracie B. Smith, 88, of Lafayette passed away Friday, December 18, 2020 at IU-Arnett Hospital. She was born August 1, 1932 in Hyden, Kentucky, to the late Joe and Eva Lee (Howard) Maggard. She was a Dress Designer for Bernon Custom Fashions for 58 years and was a Representative of House of Loards Designer Fabrics. Gracie was a member of the American Business Women’s Association, the Lodge, Service Clubs and Fort Ouiatenon Chapter. Surviving are her children: Donald E. Turpin, Jr. (wife, Vickie) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Daniel E. Turpin (wife, Gloria) of Green Hill and Vickie L. Booth of Lafayette; siblings: Arnold Maggard of Kokomo, Indiana, Clyde Maggard (wife, Judy) of Ft. Wayne and Cleo Sheesley of Cutter Ridge, FL. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Smith. A Graveside service will be held 2pm Monday, December 21, 2020 at Spring Vale Cemetery. In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. Current Covid-19 precautions will be observed along with social distancing and current government attendance guidelines. Masks are required.
