Samuel (Sam) Dicken Conner, 74 of The Woodlands, Texas passed away on April 25, 2021 at The Forum in the Woodlands. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He was born on August 24, 1946 in Lafayette, Indiana, to the late Dicken and Bertha Chancellor Conner. Along with his parents, Sam is preceded in death by his only brother, Arthur (Art). In 1964, Sam graduated from Jefferson High School in Lafayette, Indiana. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served from October 1964 through April 1968, earning the rank of Sergeant. His service included a tour of duty in Viet Nam. He was awarded the Silver Star. Sam was employed at Purdue University for forty-two years. He served many different roles in the Information Technology Department, including Lead Computer Programmer and Systems Analyst. He also completed coursework while employed at Purdue. Sam was a long-time member of Central Presbyterian Church in Lafayette, Indiana. He was active in the leadership of the Youth Programs and served as a Deacon, an Elder and a Stephen Minister. After retiring, Sam joined The Woodlands Community Presbyterian Church, where he was always eager to welcome others to the church and continued to serve as a Stephen Minister. With his wife, Linda, Sam served as a team member and a member of the National Board for Presbyterian Marriage Encounter. Sam also volunteered at The Civic Theater in Lafayette, serving on the board and building sets for many of the plays and musicals. Upon retirement, Sam served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in Tippecanoe County, Indiana. Sam is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Linda Stearns Conner of The Woodlands, Texas and his son, Christopher Conner (Jennifer) and granddaughters Emmaline and Zoe, also of The Woodlands, Texas. He is also survived by his sons David Conner and Timothy Conner of Lafayette, Indiana, his sister in-laws, brother in-laws and several nieces and nephews. On May 29 at 10:00 AM, a Memorial Service will be held in his honor at The Woodlands Community Presbyterian Church in The Woodlands, Texas. At a later date, Sam’s ashes will be interred in Lafayette, Indiana, with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, The Woodlands Community Presbyterian Church, or The Semper Fi Fund.
